The Yamaha YZF R1 uses a 998cc liquid-cooled, 20V in-line four cylinder engine with EXUP (EXhaust Ultimate Powervalve) system. DOHC (Dual OverHead Cams), chain-driven from the right-hand end of the crank. Transmission is six-speed constant mesh.
